BABIES AT THE BORDER NEED BLANKETS
In July 2019, we all learned about the plight of young immigrant children stuck at the US border with Mexico without basic necessities (such as blankets) while awaiting asylum processing. In hopes of making a small difference, we launched this initiative to raise money to produce and deliver as many blankets as possible to them. We received a total of 51 donations for a whopping $4,445, enough to make 225 blankets. In November, these were sent to Jaurez/El Paso to NGO Abara Borderland Connections for distribution.
Our contact at Abara, Blanco Castillo, was so lovely and helpful in coordinating receipt and distribution of the blankets. On 11/26, she left us the following message which we now pass along to you: “Thank you. All the kids really loved their blankets and they thought it was a great gift to them. We distributed about 60 of them to kids waiting in tents with their parents right near the bridges and ports of entry and are getting the rest through customs for distribution to shelters before Christmas.” Above is a picture of a couple of families with their blankets. Out of respect for them, we are not showing their faces.
A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to this project and helped to spread the word.
Few objects can instantly inspire feelings of love, warmth, soothing and safety like a beloved blankie. Those feelings are essential to a child's ability to survive and thrive. That's why we give blankies to foster children, who often arrive at institutions and new homes with little more than the clothes on their backs.
In this effort, we are proud to partner with AZ Helping Hands. This amazing organization provides beds, books, birthday gifts and much more to thousands of foster families each year. We are proud that they now also distribute Robot Bunnies' donation blankies to those who need them most. SNUGGLE POWER IS REAL.
